Am I too busy to play Touch?
Touch requires playing one 40-minute game a week on a specified Touch evening. You needn't attend practices or spend time with other specialised training.
If you are looking to play Touch at a competitive level you will be able to find a game every day of the week, at lunch times and evenings and even more on the weekend.
Does Touch Improve your Rugby Skills?
Undoubtedly. You make between 40 to 100 passes in an average game of Touch and thus handling and hand eye co-ordination increases drastically. Between 4 and 20 tries are scored on average between 10 to 20 people in the 40 minute game.
Speed, agility and fitness definitely improve as a result of the sport and with limited chance for injuries - Touch is perfect for rehabilitation and off season training.
How far can I go with Touch?
The FIT World cup of Touch was recently played in Japan indicating that with the talent if enough dedication is put into your game, you can represent your Country.
In South Africa you can play Touch, for your province at regularly held inter provincial tournaments. With time these sort of competitions will also develop in the UK
How do League Divisions work and how many teams play in them?
Teams that play in Touch Leagues are graded according to their skill, fitness levels, age etc. Teams are then placed in an appropriate league with between 5 to 8 other teams depending on the league size. Teams will either play each other once or on a double round basis to determine positions for the knock out stages.
Do you have to be FIT to play Touch?
People of all shapes, sizes and fitness levels play Touch. Measured from the start of the season to the end, there is always an increase in personal fitness levels and a reduction in weight amongst players. TOUCH is a fun way to exercise, improves Cardio Vascular Fitness and helps to burn excess Fat.
What special equipment do I need?
An old shirt, shorts or tracksuit pants and takkies. If you want to take the sport seriously, you might consider purchasing a pair of multi-stud hockey, soccer or rugby boots. (Balls are provided)
How many people play in a team?
"6 Down" Touch requires six people on the field at one time and "1 Touch" requires 5 people. These are the bare minimum numbers required to play Touch. It is suggested that you have up to 10 people in your team for substitution purposes.
I am an individual - where can I find a team to play in?
Often there are teams looking for a few extra players. League organisers need your contact details to inform you of such a change.
How long are the games?
League games are 40 minutes in duration, with two 20 minute halves.
How many Men and Women play in a Mixed Team?
There must be six players on the field at once. There must be a minimum of 3 women and a maximum of 3 men.
How Big is the field?
Approximately half the size of a Rugby, Hockey or Soccer field. To be more specific; 1 Touch - 40meters by 45metres and 6 Down - 50metres by 60 metres.
Is there kicking?
No kicking is allowed at any stage of Touch. Tries do not need to be converted. Play recommences at the halfway line with a tap and not a kick off.
